Action Required Regarding GST Return Data Archival

Dear Clients,

As per the latest GSTN guidelines, I would like to bring the following important information to your attention:

  1. Archival of GST Returns Data: Section 39(11) of the CGST Act, 2017 (effective from October 1, 2023, via Notification No. 28/2023 – Central Tax dated July 31, 2023) mandates that GST returns cannot be filed after three years from the due date. Additionally, the GST portal retains return data for only seven years from the filing date.
  2. Monthly Archival Process: Data older than seven years is being archived monthly. For instance, on August 1, 2024, returns for July 2017 were archived, and on September 1, 2024, returns for August 2017 were archived. This process will continue, and data for September 2017 will be archived on October 1, 2024.
  3. No Data Storage by GSTN: Please note that GSTN does not save your archived return data. Therefore, it is crucial that you download and save any return data from the GST portal for your records before it is archived and no longer accessible.

Action Required -
We strongly advise you to log in to your GST account and download all relevant GST returns and documents that may be archived soon. This will ensure that you have the necessary records for future reference.
